Bob Stanley has been obsessed with pop music since he inherited his mum and dad’s pile of rock’n’roll 45s in the seventies. He started a fanzine called Caff with his childhood pal Pete Wiggs in the eighties, and has gone on to write for NME, Melody Maker, The Face, Frieze, the Times and the Guardian. Bob and Pete formed Saint Etienne in 1990 and have just finished their tenth album, Home Counties.
He has compiled and annotated a bunch of semi-legendary compilations over the years including Gather In The Mushrooms, Velvet Tinmine, Britain Learns To Rock, Tea & Symphony and English Weather, as well as the Saint Etienne Presents series. Bob’s book Yeah Yeah Yeah: The Story of Modern Pop was published by Faber & Faber in 2013; he is currently working on the prequel.
His Soho Radio show picks two different years each week, playing hits, b-sides, album tracks and the occasional acetate.
